Travel Tip #17 – Bring $100 Bills For a Higher Exchange Rate
A great deal of traveling requires the exchanging of money. A hassle in most places, whether you do it before you depart or while on the ground wherever you find yourself, it has to be done. The days of travelers cheques are long gone, and having cash is always a step above having to rely on places to accept your credit card. Plus, these days, banks will suspend or lock your account, credit card, etc at the drop of a hat in the name of security.
We recommend always exchanging some money before you leave your home country. The airport is definitely the easiest place to exchange money, but they will also charge you the highest percent for the service. If you have the time to visit your local AAA before departing, they will give you the best rate. Also, if exchanging while abroad or at home, try and have $100 bills, or the largest bill of your currency, available as the higher the bill the higher the exchange rate you will get. While not a whole lot better, if you are exchanging a couple thousand bucks it could save you enough to take the family out to a nice dinner or buy you and your mates a couple cold ones.
