Restaurant Review: Al Dawaar, Dubai’s Only Revolving Restaurant

.

We’ve had some amazing meals during our travels through Europe the last few months, but none of them were revolving, and while that might sound like a gimmick to some, Al Dawaar takes the dining experience to a new level and in no way leans on the fact that it is Dubai’s only revolving restaurant to draw diners. Located on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency Dubai, Al Dawaar provides one of the most unique, scenic and memorable dining experiences you will ever have, and bring your appetite because their food is to die for.

.

“Hotel restaurants don’t normally blow us away or leave us wanting to come back to the hotel just to visit the restaurant, but we would fly clear back to Dubai to visit Al Dawaar again, and thats no joke…”

.

The only other revolving restaurant we have ever been to is SkyCity at the top of the Seattle Space Needle, and while it is impressive and sure does spin, there is a time limit on the tables and a minimum you have to spend. That, mixed with the throng of tourists left us wanting a bit more, and we found it at Al Dawaar.

.

From the moment you step off of the elevator the mood changes and you know you are in for an experience. We all eat meals every day of our lives, but rarely do they also provide amazing memories and end up being about way more than just the meal. Al Dawaar offers simply the most delicious and impressive buffet dining we have ever witnessed. I shy away from using the word “buffet” as it drums up images of hoards of hungry people in line and messy serving spoons, but the staff at Al Dawaar have revolutionized the buffet experience in the sense that every single aspect of the dining experience is top notch and never approaches tacky, only delicious.

Al Dawaar’s only downfall is that it leaves any diner with an almost impossible dilemma – where to start? It might sound funny, but when you have world class chefs serving up the absolute best Middle Eastern, Western, Thai and Indian food you have to make a decision. Our advice? Try a little (or a lot) of everything. From fresh salmon, to chicken curry, fresh cuts of beef, spicy Thai salad, we tried it all – but watch yourself, you’ve got to save room for desert as well.

.

Many buffet restaurants will throw out a few cookies or some cake and fruit and call it “desert”, but not at Al Dawaar. The desert is reason enough to pay Al Dawaar a visit, with variations and deserts we had never seen before, complete with dark chocolate truffles and exotic fruits. The pastry and desert chefs have done every diner a favor by realizing that anyone who gets to the desert portion of their meal most likely will not have much left room, and so there are small, tasteful and artistic portions of almost every desert – little bite size pieces of heaven, so you can try as many you like without having to be rolled to the elevator when you want to leave.

Hotel restaurants don’t normally blow us away or leave us wanting to come back to the hotel just to visit the restaurant, but we would fly clear back to Dubai to visit Al Dawaar again, and thats no joke.
