Why Budapest Might Just be the Most Enchanting City in Europe (30 PHOTOS)
.
Budapest is quickly becoming one of the hottest cities in Europe. We’ll admit that visiting Budapest was not on the top of our list until almost every traveler and friend we talked to told us we couldn’t miss a visit.
.
Eager to see what all the fuss was about, we booked a train from Prague to Budapest and were absolutely blown away by how beautiful, clean, friendly and enchanting Budapest was. The city offers some of the most magnificent castles in Europe, the cuisine to die for, parks to lounge in, a superb transit system, a hip night life and all for very cheap.
.
It wasn’t on our list of cities to visit when we started this trip, but Budapest has quickly jumped to the top of our list of cities we must get back to.

    • We had nothing but rain and wind for 3 months in Europe before we arrived in Budapest…. might have had something to do with us loving it to much haha!

  1. Those are really beautiful photos of Budapest, Marina and Jeff! I was very positively surprised as well when visiting Budapest and for me personally it’s definitely one of the best cities in Europe. Unfortunately I haven’t been back there in a while, so thank you for your great visual reminder to make it a priority… :)

    • Right on Dennis! It is always a special experience to visit a city or country you never planned on visiting and be blown away by it!

    • So glad to hear you are visiting Budapest soon, you’ll surely have an amazing time and the weather will be even more beautiful than when we visited. We loved the Budapest sign as well and were shocked to find that when we woke up the morning we left, it had been completely taken down! I don’t know if they were setting up some sort of concert in the square (which is sort of looked like), so hopefully they re-installed the sign when the event in the square was over. Let us know! (ps. When you are in that square, and looking straight on to it, there is a great tourist info building off to the right side on the water front. You can easily buy the hop-on hop-off city buss pass there as well as change money, get free maps etc. Also, make sure to walk over the bridge to the other side, walk through the parks and check out the amazing castle on the right side. The castle was built about 100 years ago to commemorate the centennial of Budapest and is constructed using three different styles, its really cool. And then of course the amazing Hungarian baths (largest in Europe) are right across the street if you fancy that. Phew! Have a blast!

      • Dang, I hope the sign is there. I’ve seen a few similar signs in cities, I think they’re some kind of art installation thing. They should take heed of Amsterdam and make it a permanent thing. Plus, the photos have to make it good free marketing, right? :)

Cheers for the tips! I’ve never taken a hop-on-hop-off bus, maybe this can be my first attempt, then. Can’t wait!

        • I really hope they put it back too, even if it was moving around the city, it looks so cool in both day and night. The one in Amsterdam is so popular, each city should have one. Such an easy thing to install and make an instant tourist spot!

  2. Your pictures look awesome! I’ve been itching to get to Budapest in the last year or so but the timing has never been right. I think you guys may have convinced me to make it a priority this year!

    • Thanks Amy! We can’t recommend it enough. We spoke with a lot of locals that said the summer was the best time as this year there are tons of really fun music festivals in and around the city. Heres to hoping we can make it back for one!

  3. What BEAUTIFUL photographs!! I lived here for seven months and I wish I had photos like that for my memories! Makes me miss the city so much – it truly is enchanting. & you got a photo of my favourite statue – the fat policeman! 😉
